Energy, utilities, and critical infrastructure

Continuous control monitoring across IT, OT, cloud, and field operations.

Inventory PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, substations, cloud services, and engineering workstations while monitoring segmentation, configuration drift, identities, and recovery readiness.

Sector problems

What this environment has to get right

  • Active scans can disrupt controllers, safety systems, and legacy SCADA.
  • NERC CIP and sector audits ask for evidence across many assets and requirements.
  • Energy and utility networks are priority targets, and many sites have only a small IT staff.
  • Remote access and flat networks connect business IT to control systems.
  • Weather, disasters, and aging recovery plans affect whether service can be restored.

Regulations and frameworks

How AI SOAR supports the evidence, not the determination

Mappings help you collect and organize evidence. An assessor, examiner, auditor, or authorizing official still decides whether the obligation is met. The platform does not certify an organization or file a regulatory notice.

FrameworkWhat it asks forHow the platform helps
NERC CIPOfficial source ↗Protect bulk electric system cyber assets, including categorization, electronic perimeters, personnel, incident response, recovery, supply chain, and physical security. The energy evidence pack maps CIP-002 through CIP-014. Supply-chain records support CIP-013. Incident and recovery exercises support CIP-008 and CIP-009.
CIP-015-1 and FERC Order 887Official source ↗Internal network security monitoring for high- and medium-impact bulk electric system cyber systems, on the timeline in the current FERC and NERC orders.Passive discovery and log collection support monitoring plans inside the electronic security perimeter. Confirm the compliance date that applies to your registration.
TSA pipeline security directivesOfficial source ↗Designated pipeline operators implement the cybersecurity measures in the current TSA security directive.Segmentation and monitoring evidence can be mapped to the directive in effect. The accountable executive reviews the package.
IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82Official source ↗Secure industrial automation and control systems without unsafe active testing.OT assessments are evidence-only by default. A safe profile uses passive protocol identification and does not fuzz, spam banners, or generate broadcast storms.
Water-sector risk and resilienceOfficial source ↗Community water systems maintain risk and resilience assessments and emergency response plans under the America's Water Infrastructure Act.Exercise records and drafted business-impact, continuity, and recovery plans support that evidence. Confirm the statute's applicability to your system.

Typical workflows

Illustrative missions, with a person still in control

These workflows show how documented capabilities apply. They are not customer case studies, and they do not describe a guaranteed outcome.

Inventory a substation without touching controllers

Problem
The team needs a current list of bulk electric system cyber assets and cannot send active traffic to relays or controllers.
What the platform does
Passive discovery uses network telemetry and OT platform data. The safe profile stays passive.
Human approval
Anything beyond passive collection needs written approval. OT actions stay behind an approval gate.
Evidence
An inventory with protocol exposure, firmware provenance, and findings enriched from vulnerability sources.

Test incident and recovery plans

Problem
Annual CIP-008 and CIP-009 exercises are due, and the written plans are stale.
What the platform does
A tabletop runs from the scenario library. Updated plans are drafted as pending documents.
Human approval
Plan owners approve each revision. A draft does not become the official plan on its own.
Evidence
An after-action report, corrective actions, and the approved plan versions.

Unusual remote access into a water plant

Problem
A vendor account signs in at an unusual hour and reaches an HMI.
What the platform does
Identity and behavior signals are correlated with OT telemetry, and containment is prepared.
Human approval
Disabling the vendor account or changing the OT session waits for the on-call operator.
Evidence
A session timeline, the decision record, and an incident report.

A practical route from scope to evidence

  1. 01

    Scope and connect

Define the customer profile, authorized assets, and responsible owners. Continuous control monitoring across IT, OT, cloud, and field operations.

  2. 02

    Test and investigate

Use OT inventory, protocol monitor, segmentation reviewer workflows with approved credentials and mission limits. Preserve source evidence and failures alongside findings.

  3. 03

    Remediate and verify

Assign corrective work, obtain approvals, capture changes, and retest. Export the evidence, exceptions, and status history for business owners and assessors.

Questions for this sector

Answers you can take to a scoping call

Will assessments disrupt OT systems?+

They are designed not to. OT assessments are evidence-only by default. The safe profile allows passive protocol identification and blocks fuzzing, banner spam, and broadcast storms. Any move to an active profile needs written approval.

Does it support NERC CIP evidence?+

Yes. The energy pack maps evidence to CIP-002 through CIP-014, tracks internal network security monitoring expectations, and can include FERC and TSA pipeline measures where those apply. It does not replace a NERC audit.

Which OT tools can it use?+

Deployments can connect OT platforms such as Claroty, Dragos, and Nessus OT, and can review industrial protocols such as Modbus, S7, and DNP3, where those integrations are enabled. Findings can be enriched from public vulnerability sources.

Can a small utility use it without an OT security team?+

Yes. Autonomous SOC covers IT detection and response, OT agents stay passive unless a person expands the scope, and high-impact or OT actions wait for approval. An MSSP can also run the control plane and place collectors at plants and remote sites.
